Sporting Alleynian

It has been such a wonderful year for sport at Dulwich. It is always such a pleasure to see the boys of Dulwich representing the College with such pride and enthusiasm. The benefits of being involved in sport are well documented with developing resilience, social skills, leadership, and many others cited as reasons for vast investment in school sports programmes. What I believe is often overlooked is the simple benefits on the health of both the body and the mind. From improving sleep and strengthening the heart, through to reducing stress and improving bodily functions, developing a positive attitude towards physical activity plays a major role in living a long healthy life.

This year has seen many highlights from the many National Finals that we have been in, through to the special days of house sport. The reports that follow will give a sense of the year but, I must just mention the U13’s winning our first ever National Cup for football at Burton Albion, and Sameer SR winning Gold at the Public Schools Fencing championships. Alongside those competitive highlights, it can’t fail but put a smile on your face to see how much the boys enjoy their time together socialising through sport.

That leaves me to thank the boys themselves for all their efforts. In particular I wish the leavers all the very best for the future. To all the parents who give up their time to come and support, it is very much appreciated by us all. Finally, to the staff who work hard to support the boys on their sporting journey. Mr Coughtrie leaves us this year for Eton and we wish him and his young family the very best for the future. Coach Clive has been leading basketball here at the College since 2009 and he retires at the end of the term. Again, we wish him all the very best for future.
