During this years Christmas Fair, the annual Dulwich College Staff XV Rugby fixture took place on pitch 4 in front of the Barry Buildings. On an autumnal afternoon, a fantastically competitive fixture ensued with both teams looking to play an exciting brand of rugby. The staff team enjoyed brilliant support from boys and parents alike, as well as former common room members to bolster the playing ranks.

The College staff team took the early initiative, with new common room member Mr Annett mixing up his game from fly-half to keep the OA's defence guessing. Mr Foster, Mr Oakley and Mr Swift provided a beefy front row, with Dr Burbidge, Mr Hallam, Mr Murphy, Mr Thomas Mr Sewell and Mr Wood providing the thrust from the back five of the scrum. Mr Wood, back from exchange in Australia displayed magnificent dexterity and athleticism creating line breaks and try scoring opportunities. Mr Davies controlled the forwards with aplomb from the base at scrum half, and finished the game in the back row, exhibiting excellent tackle-jackal skills. In the centres, Mr Allen provided a lovely combination of silky handling skills and physicality in the contact area, whilst Mr Roberts was consistency personified. Mr Coughtrie, Mr Monson and Mr Williams looked lively on the wings and were the grateful recipients of some pin point cross-field kicks from Annett, as well as time and space to score. Mr Faiers displayed delightful running angles and a sharp turn of pace from full back.

The OA's provided a stern test, with the fixture being the most competitive for a number of years, however the DC staff ran out 29-22 victors.

The match is played in honour and to raise money for the Henry Fraser (OA) foundation, with donations going towards the UK stem Cell Foundation at Henry's request. To date, the staff rugby match has raised tens of thousands of pounds for this charity since its inception a number of years ago.

Hearty thanks to all those who played and we look forward to next seasons fixture already.
