Captain Matteo Cranchi won the toss and elected to bat setting his team a target of 120 to aim for from their innings. Openers Maxwell-Scott and Titcomb faced plenty of balls and saw off the opening quicks from RGS and profited from some profligate bowling and fielding with some smart running. A change of bowlers slowed the run rate and saw both openers fall with RGS taking control of the game. Feeling under pressure to get back to a reasonable scoring rate; two calamitous run outs ended Cranchi’s and Evans innings soon after. Thankfully Doepel stepped in to shore up the innings and scored a delightful 25 from 28 deliveries, ably supported by Isaac. The tail tried valiantly to push the score as high as possible in the remaining two overs, finishing at 113 all out- a good total against a strong bowling attack.

Dulwich started brightly in the field with Coulsen taking a wicket in the first over. From here though RGS built steadily and took the momentum of the game with their No3 hitting clean and true including four 4’s and a huge 6. A few overs later a change in bowling attack brought the run rate back under control and smart close fielding from Titcomb and Vara kept the batsmen from rotating the strike too often. More consistency in the bowling attack, with enthusiasm and sharpness in the field led by wicketkeeper George Pink began to frustrate the RGS batsmen as they started to fall well behind the required rate. Needing 33 off the final three overs, the scene was set for a tense finale. Despite the odd boundary and missed runout opportunity the consistency of the Dulwich bowlers kept the RGS batsmen from hitting the boundaries required falling 13 runs short. Coulsen was the pick of the bowlers conceding only 14 runs from 4 overs with 2 wickets and was well supported by his team mates.

Very well done to all the boys in the U14C squad who’s attendance and efforts in training are beginning to bear fruit.
