Dulwich College U10A vs  Dulwich College U10 Football Tournament
On: Tuesday, 02 Oct 2018
Venue: at Home

On 2 October, Dulwich College played host to 25 schools, it’s largest U10 Football tournament to-date. A fitting event to coincide with the 400-year anniversary, played in front of the impressive Barry Buildings.

There is little doubt that Edward Alleyn would have been extremely proud of the great performing abilities and enthusiasm of the 300 pupils from local schools, all playing with great spirit and sportsmanship.

Four groups of seven saw 84 matches at this stage of the competition and not only was the spirit fantastic but so was the standard. The pitches were in great condition and enabled schools to play a quick passing game and, the many spectators were given a real footballing treat.

All groups were very tight, but it was Alleyn’s, Hornsby House, Thomas’ Battersea and Dulwich College who progressed to the semi-finals. Dulwich played superbly against a good Alleyn’s side to progress to the final, however, the other semi-final could not be determined in regulation time and went to penalties. After several high-pressured, sudden-death penalties, it was the Thomas’ goalkeeper who made the important save, setting up a final against home-side, Dulwich College.

Dulwich started the final well and took a two-goal lead and had it not been for the heroics of the Thomas’ Battersea goalkeeper, the match could have been over by half-time. The second half saw a change in momentum and two quick goals from Thomas’ had the game level. We were then given a master class of finishing from one of Dulwich’s finest players and a thrilling final game ended with a Dulwich victory (5-2). The first time Dulwich have won the tournament in recent years.
