Match Report
Dulwich College U14C vs  Wellington College
On: Saturday, 08 Sep 2018
Venue: Away

The first game of the season saw the U14Cs take on Wellington College in a game divided into three thirds. This was in order to gradually increase the number of bodies in the breakdown area as game progressed. The first third, where there was no competition at the breakdown, saw the Alleynians pass the ball well as they looked to exploit the space out wide. This was a very physical third and the boys made some great tackles. However, Wellington ran hard onto the ball and made a breakaway try to lead the first third 5 – 0. The second third saw the Dulwich boys run much harder, in doing so, they looked much more threatening. Masud Alao and Henry Chan both made a number of great runs and Matteo Dembinski did an excellent job securing ball in the one-man rucks. Sadly, Wellington scored again to leave the boys 10 – 0 at the end of the second third.

The final third saw the introduction to a full break down. Particualy impressive was Orson Steel, who earlier in the game had made a number of yards with the ball in hand. He crashed over early in the third and James Hawkins kicked a good conversion. Frustratingly, the strong tackling took its toll and Wellington scored three quick trys before time. Although it was not the result that the boys would have liked, this was an impressive first performance and after the game the boys analysed the areas to build upon before the match against Epsom next week.
