Match Report
Dulwich College 3rd XV vs  Bedford School
On: Saturday, 13 Oct 2018
Venue: at Home

A now seemingly typical 3rd XV performance with an under par first half and outstanding second. 12-0 down first half, but with more ball, we should have done better. Slipped tackles and too tight a defensive line allowed gaps round the fringes.

But black ball once again was the key and the second half saw three key exit kicks which turned the game. Patient play at the start of the second half saw several phases, forwards linking well, black balls and a switch to open play, quick hands and good hard line from Adam Kinirons saw the first DC response of note. This was followed by George Peprah's fine score (see video) after fine pick and go from Alec Kenningham, well presented, penalty ensued, comedy comedy from the pack leader (no names and didn't even play the ball properly!), pen retaken, Lucas Pattinson kept the Bedford honest, Louie Roberts hit up, Lucas Treip set up perfectly with Ben Clerihew in good support on debut, for the Peprah machine to take out 3 defenders to dot down. Conversion missed to go 12-12.

Then a moment of madness.

90 seconds left. Both teams probably happy to take a draw after a classic battle. Bedford restart. Doesn't go ten. Bedford freeze. Henry 'girds his loins' Loynes, picks up the ball inside the ten and runs down the left wing, totally unopposed, 50+ metres to dot down and convert for a famous win, 19-12. Superb end to a great game, the closest between two great rugby schools in many years and played in excellent spirit. Player of Day - Louie Roberts.

Rest up now, get in the gym (28 days until next game) and return ready for Fisher, away on 10 Nov, then Whitgift, Tonbridge, St Paul's and Hampton.
